I chose to have a suit made at Barkat Ali because of their reputation for being tailors of the highest quality. Both their service and the final product exceeded my expectations. Sarfraz Ali took me in hand and guided me in the choice of cloth, which wasn’t easy because they carry such a wide range of fine domestic and imported materials. Measurements were careful and at the fitting proved to be accurate. I couldn’t be happier with my new suit.

This is perhaps the first ever tailor cum cloth merchant in Kolkata. It was an amazing experience of buying clothes for suits from a shop that's still serving this city since 1910. The employees are too courteous and polite. Prices for clothes are much more affordable than any other shops. I personally feel proud of becoming a customer of Barkat Ali And Brothers. I wish every one at this establishment a great success.....

I had a suit made here in December 2018. The experience was fantastic. The perfect combination of friendly and professional service. With decades of experience, they were able to give me invaluable advice regarding all suit related matters. These brothers really know what they're doing! I recommend them unreservedly. I will be returning for sure.

This place is for all Men’s tailoring needs in the town. Tailors takes pain on their side to give you a perfect fit of your ordered dress. Located in the heart of the city Esplanade, very easy to access over any commute. I just deduct a star, for I feel the charge is bit heavy on your wallet. I generally go with my father for his shirts and pant, the tailor famously known as chacha asked the customer to visit one more day to the store before the final delivery. On that day the half complete Dress has to be tried for the fit check so that one can get a complete fine finished product. Though it is a pain to visit one day more, but you get a perfect fit on delivery.

These gentlemen exceeded expectations. I had some doubts after one fitting session, but they're professional and been doing this for quite a long time, hence allayed my fears to come and pick up the suit directly before I imminently had to leave the country. I was immensely pleased and surprised by their craftsmanship, especially since I have an 8-10 inch drop from chest to waist, hence tailored suits are necessary for me. They're absolutely worth the money you pay, and I can definitely recommend these gentlemen to tend to your specific needs. Awesome job, cheers!

I dont know if they are the best in kolkata or not, but They are really good and professional..that much I can assure.. Their charges are bit higher compared to other shops, but then again for bespoke suits this is reasonable .. They charged rs9500 making charge for tuxedo, for shirts its around 600rs, for trousers its 950 probably. Prices may vary according to design. They also keeps different kinds of fabric of all price range.. Most importantly their dress fit near perfectly..So, tailoring charges are worth spending..

Though the final product is good, the behaviour of the owner is not customer friendly. Its not as if they are doing it for free! Very expensive and if you are willing to swallow their I-don't-care-attitude, then maybe one time in your lifetime you can get your suit done from this place. That's it. Not worth more than that.

The interiors is not glitzy or smart - infact it looks dowdy. However, don't judge this book by it's cover / appearance. There is no outwards pretense & show. It's the work that talks for itself. My partner got 2 suits stitched. While stitching is not cheap, the craftsmanship is fabulous. For a meticulous dresser, he is fully satisfied with the service & tailoring.

Tired of not so well fitting readymade pants, wanted to give this reputed tailor a try. And it was worth the money spent. Meticulous measurement, a trial visit for the trouser, and on time delivery of a perfect fit formal shirt and trousers. If you're ready to shell out ₹1500 for getting a pair of shirt and pant stitched, go for it blindly. It gave me a feel of the perfect fitting of AD Pall, Ranchi.

ASK FOR THE SUMIT SARKAR DISCOUNT! Remind them he bought the sport coat from the mannequin in the window!! I went there after reading that Parekh and Singh bought their suits from here. The quality and customer service is excellent. They are on the more expensive side, however you get what you pay for. The higher quality suits and sport coats are in the back. All items are custom tailored and they also make dress shirts. For the discerning gentleman, you cannot go wrong with anything purchased here.

Two years back I had made one Tailored Suit from other Barkat Ali & Bros. [Situated in the Park Street area] but didn't give any Feedback that time as I would like to try this Barkat Ali & Bros. so I can compare and give a perfect Comparison. Positive point : (Same impression for Another Barkat Ali & Bros. [Situated in the Park Street area]) Here you will get most perfect fit but only at their Condition. High Quality Inner Material. It always have something amazing under sleeves. Customer Service are good. They will give you a trial date even for a Shirt Pant. Negative point : Very Costly (But as they are one of the top reated Tailor so it's expected). Need to plan before hand as it take time to get delivered. They don't make any alterations after completion. No deviation from the original / traditional making, which you might want as you are making this a customed Shirt / Pant with a cost of all most double of Normal Tailor Charge. Conclusion: If you don't have any idea of good Tailor in Kolkata and you want to go by name then I would recommend you to get your Suit prepared from this Barkat Ali & Bros. which is situated near the Oberoi Grand at New Market

Good I stiched 3 piece suit form Barkat Ali,which they delivered in 12 days.I am not from kolkata I just read the reviews and I visited the shop. They advised me where I will get the variety good shoes, cloth even though they have there own cloth collection which is very good thing about them they didn't force to buy the cloth from there shop. Pros-Good Hospitality, allow no of trial for fitting, Good Tailor Cons - little bit costly

One of the most famous name in custom tailoring for more than 100 years .Truly they have lived up to the expectations of their vast clientele. In Kolkata, probably they are among very few known for 'attention-to-details' in works. The sartorial knowledge of tailor brothers,a group of inhouse craftsmen along with prized collection of suiting fabrics from renowned houses make this place an absolute 'must-go'.

"I would not recommend Barkat Ali and Brothers Tailor due to the arrogant behavior of the staff and their lack of cooperation. They claimed that the material I provided was insufficient, but another tailor gladly accepted it without any issues. The customer service was disappointing, and I felt disrespected during my visit. It's important for businesses to treat their customers with courtesy and professionalism, which was unfortunately not the case here."

Very much disappointed with their work and behaviour . They are not ready to accept their mistakes . On first visit for my two suit theyr were ready to do whatever I wanted , charged extra , but what I got was totally pathetic , told them , but got the answer that this is what they do . They got their money , now it doesn't matter to them . A total waste of money and time .

This is the worst store in Kolkata, they are not at all professionals , if you want to waste your time and money then you can visit otherwise I would suggest you not to visit this store at all...come to the stitching even you can get better stitching in normal tailoring store,more over they used to take too much time for just a normal stich. So I would just not to visit this store better to try some other store.

Let me preface by saying that I'm probably a bit more picky than others; I'm an apparel industry business owner, as well as an enthusiast. I ordered two shirts and a jacket from Barkat Ali & Bros recently and I must say: for a place that is considered to be Kolkata's #1 tailor, the quality is not acceptable. These products would not pass even H&M's quality standards. Let me start off with the jacket. + The fit is good. A bit loose for my taste, but then again, there would've been no time for adjustments anyway. + The tailor listened to my preferences - Details are extremely sloppy, not acceptable for any reputable tailor. If you inspect the stitching of lining in the sleeves, they're barely held together by a single loose thread, bound to be torn after a few uses. - Lapels are sub-prime quality. The back fabric is sticking out, creating an ugly unintentional layer. Furthermore, the peak lapes is uneven and softly round, looking unfinished and certainly not impactful. - Tailored lapels create a natural rolling fold, falling equally to both sides. These lapels are pressed. They also have a stiff, glued feel. Shirts: + Not much - fit is roughly right - Glue - so much stiffness. The shirt cuffs and collar are basically just hunks of stiff glue. If you are the owner of a decent dress shirt (100€+ non-Boss shirt. eg. Eton), you'll usually find a a few mobile layers of cloth within your collar. The best collars create a beautiful arch at the top, while sill keeping their points down. This shirt does none of the above. The collar is stiff, instead of the arch, there is a pressed-down pleat, and the collar point absolutely will not stay down. Overall, it feels cheap and not Tailor-made at all, but rather glued / stitched together by a back-shop assistant boy from ready-made components. - Fit - Even though I ordered two Made-To-Measure shirts, they are somehow of different size. On the other shirt, the collar is way too big, and just looks a bit silly when worn. Furthermore, the arm holes are about 1cm too big (this might seem trivial, but armhole size is probably the most crucial measure when it comes down to your arm mobilty - just try lifting up your arms is a tucked shirt that is too large. I paid ~25€ per shirt, and 225€ for jacket, so I suppose in the end of the day you get what you pay for. Had my flight not left the next day, I would've refused to pay the check until the quality issues would've been taken care of. I probably will wear none of the components bought from Barkat Ali & Bros, because they just don't pass the bar of fit, feel or aestetics. In hindsight, the first warning sign probably should've been the fact that upon entry, no-one was working on actual tailoring/stitching in the store. Despite the queue or orders, the tailor-brothers themselves seem to be more salesmen than stitchers these days. This is fine, as long as you still produce the best product. This, sadly, wasn't the case.
