I have purchased 8 blouses in total from Sumitra Mukherjee’s design studio and I am completely amazed by the customised designs and the fit of the blouses. Shotti apurbo collection and amazing embroidery work done on my blouses. Very satisfied. I would urge all brides and women who are looking for blouses both readymade and customised for occasions and for normal wear to visit this store once!

My experience with Sumitra Mukherjee Design Studio has been fantastic throughout. For our Indian wedding in December 2026, I had been looking for a good custom-made bridal blouse studio in Kolkata. Since we live in the UK, it was a big deal for us to find a reliable and skilled bridal blouse tailor in Kolkata. After a lot of research, I found Sumitra Mukherjee Design Studio through Google. In November 2025, my husband and I visited her studio in Shyambazar, and we were warmly welcomed by the team.
We ordered my bridal blouse and a lehenga blouse for the haldi ceremony, both fully custom-made. The designs were beautiful, and they gave excellent suggestions for my bridal blouse design. Everything was delivered on time, and my father later collected them. I am really looking forward to wearing them this year for the wedding.
We also bought a readymade blouse for my mother-in-law, as we had no other choice since she lives in France. I was quite worried about the fitting. However, I spoke with Sumitra di over the phone, and she guided the lady in the store properly regarding the fitting of the blouse. We only provided my mother-in-law’s measurements, and within just 30 minutes, they altered the blouse completely. We wanted to gift her the blouse along with a Banarasi saree that she will be wearing at our wedding next year.
During the Christmas holidays in 2025, when we brought the blouse to France, my mother-in-law absolutely loved it. The blouse fitted her amazingly, and no alteration was required at all. The design looks beautiful on her, and the materials are of very good quality. We cannot thank Sumitra Mukherjee Design Studio enough for creating such a beautiful blouse and managing the fitting in such a short time. It was my mother-in-law’s first experience wearing an Indian outfit, and she felt very happy and comfortable in the blouse, and very excited to wear it for the wedding as well.
We are highly satisfied with Sumitra Mukherjee Design Studio, and in the future, if we need blouses, we would definitely go back to them.

I had gone to them for a blouse that i urgently needed for an important performance and was promised by a set date. they had failed the date so i couldn't use it. later when they finally delivered, it was made horribly.
they added a contrast pipping without once consulting with us saying "we put a pipping on all our blouses". we are first time customers so obviously we did not know and were not informed, not to mention, the finishing of said pipping was terrible.
we had specifically asked for a plain cut blouse but instead they made it into a princess cut, once again without informing us.
the measurements were all over the place...the length was off by inches, the chest was an inch small, and the arm hole and shoulder areas were too big.
we had to ask them to alter it every time we went in after that because they just couldn't make it right, which we should've known given that they never measured me once during the alterations.
after the third time we were informed that if we wanted to alter it any further we would have to pay an alteration fee. an alteration fee for something they couldn't get right the first 4 times...me and my mother had to waste our time, money and efforts going back and forth with them just to end up with a blouse that STILL does not fit.
we had also contacted the owner directly regarding these issues thinking that maybe she'll be of some help but as it turns out she couldn't care less
and when we were going back and forth about the size issues and alteration fees the woman at the counter had the audacity to say that we were charged less for the blouse. when in reality we were originally being overcharged (by ₹500) because they thought the material was a different more expensive one.
my experience was so bad that i had to share it here. the owner didn't seem to care and the ladies at the counter were incompetent at best. i will never suggest this place to anyone ever.

The fabric is extremely soft, comfortable, and clearly of very good quality. What impressed me most is that despite such fine handloom work, the price was very reasonable. I had given reference to many people about this blouse shop . But they have literally disappointed me . Many of the blouses were of poor fittings . The behaviour of the shopkeeper was not at all expected. After spoiling the design of one blouse, they were imposing their own design which was not at all good looking . Overall experience is worst with this store.

Worst Experience, Completely Unprofessional
I had a very bad experience with Sumitra Mukherjee Design Studio. I gave them a blouse to stitch and was told the cost would be ₹1500. I even paid ₹500 as advance. But when the work was done, they started insisting on payment of ₹200 extra over and above the ₹1,000 due, saying there was heavy embroidery on the blouse piece. This was never mentioned at the time of placing the order, and they only brought it up at the end.
When I questioned it, they kept arguing instead of giving a proper explanation. They were extremely rude and insisted they would not hand over my blouse unless I paid the extra ₹200, which felt completely unethical and unfair.
They have no transparency, no professionalism, and no ethics in their business. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Save your money, avoid the stress and keep the peace of your mind. There are better and more honest designers out there.
